My favorite is from the 1991 miniseries BRIDES OF CHRIST. It's about a Catholic girls' boarding school, a high school in Australia back in the mid-60s. In the second episode, two of the girls, Frances (Naomi Watts) and Brigid (Melissa Thomas) are unjustly accused of reading an "improper" book and an older nun takes them from the school grounds back into a classroom and makes them bend across the desk where she begins spanking them with a heavy wooden yardstick. You see the stick come down a couple times and both girls wince with the pain, and then they are "rescued" by a younger nun who becomes a friend of theirs.

The spanking scene is fairly short, but it is very realistic Catholic school discipline from back in that era, as I myself know.

Wow. I guess I've been living in a cave. I can't believe I missed a spanking scene that had Naomi Watts in it.
