Campaign on to revive school spankings

A tutor in Dallas public schools has launched the website bringbacklicks.com in hopes of bringing corporal punishment back to schools, WFAA-TV reported (wfaa.com).

Gilbert Leal told WFAA he has the support of three school board candidates and hopes to win more before elections Saturday.

Leal said that in the five years since the Dallas Independent School District banned corporal punishment, teachers can spend 30% of their time handling disruptions.

"It's the psychology of it ... the threat of licks," he said. "That's what I think is so effective."
