Boomer Sooner Paddles?

Watching the Texas Tech-Oklahoma game last night, I noticed some the the Oklahoma cheerleaders were brandishing sorority type paddles decorated with the school colors. I had noticed these a time or two before, especially when they come out on the field in that little covered wagon, and had always meant to do some research as to the significance of them.

All I could find was that the paddles were a tradition that began in the 20s. It said they were used to intimidate the opposing team's fans and inspire their own fans to cheer louder. I couldn't help but wonder if they'd ever actually been used, perhaps on the spandex clad bottoms of those gorgeous cheerleaders? (Well, you can't blame a guy for dreaming!)

Is anybody here from Oklahoma that might know more about this tradition or if these paddles have ever been put to actual use?

I am well versed in Sooner lore....it seems that if you donate $1000 (or more) to the OU athletic department, you get to chose one of the cheerleaders (at least the ones not named Bubba or Billy bob) to give you swats with her paddle...that needless to say is the good news....the bad,you actually have to spend time in Norman,Oklahoma....

How much would you have to donate in order use one of those paddles on the bottom of a female cheerleader? If they'd let people do that, I predict that their athletic budget would be off the charts. And I would gladly spend time in Norman for that!

Well,I suspect that I'm not adverse to hyperbole, that being said,OU cheerleaders can be quite lovely, like most of their football team, the finest of the fine being from Texas....

As for Norman,I have been there........................I'd rather have root canal than go back....
