Pet Peeves

Ok...what are your pet peeves? (they don't have to be about spanking or TTWD even though the one I have put is)

Here is one of mine...people who send add requests on YIM and don't even bother to tell you who they are, where they got your info from, or have any sort of info attached to their profile so you can figure out if they are someone you might like to talk with!

Why on earth would be it be so hard to send a message first (something along the lines of)...Hi iggy, I saw your profile on yahoo360 (or wherever) and thought I'd say hi since I'm also interested in spanking. I am a Dom/spanker/whatever...here is a link my MY yahoo360 so you can see a bit about me.

Grrrrrr............

Then they accuse you of being "like a detective" and "confrontational" cuz I asked a couple of questions and didn't immediately spill out any and all sexual/spanking fantasies that may have ever popped into my head.

ChaseyPlain 10-21-2006 10:12 PM

Along the same lines, I hate when people IM you and ask you your age and location which is clearly stated on your profile that they didn't bother to read. And then they want to know "where in Dallas" like I'm going to just give them my address or something. LOL

I'll send you a YIM invite. And you'll know who I am. :)

Veronica Daniels 11-06-2006 10:27 PM

I totally agree with all of the above! Very annoying. Here is one of mine, call me uptight but I really cannot stand it when people address me as "hey". Is it so hard to say, "Hi, how are you?" It just seems like such dis-respectful lazy talk..."hey". I have started saying back, "no thanks, I don't eat the stuff!" :)

Just one woman's opinion-
Veronica D.

garyspk 11-06-2006 10:39 PM

As my dad always says when someone says "hey" to him, "Hey is what horses eat."

spanked~amber 11-06-2006 10:59 PM

As far as pet peeves go, my personal one would have to be when someone refers to me as "shrimp." Now I've been used to being referred to as little and have had the "lil'" added on my name as far back as I can remember. No problem.I even had a teacher in junior high and highschool that drove my bus(theres a story here in the future, lol) that nicknamed me "Nat." Again, no big deal, I knew it wasn't meant in a mean way. But for some reason being called shrimp just crawls all over me in a really bad way. Call me shrimp and you've just lit a "lil" stick of dynomite, lol.

So I've got a question: In general, how do you feel about being so short? Like it? Don't like it? Doesn't matter? If you could wave a magic wand and add few inches, would you?

I ask because it has been my experience that the great majority of short girls indicate that they do not like being short. Some of the things that they complain about are to be expected, to be sure, such as not being able to reach items in the grocery store, needing something to stand on to get things from the pantry and shelves in the home, and so on. And I get the impression that they think that guys find it, if not unattractive, at least not something that turns the eye.

Speaking for myself, as a male, I think that short girls are hotter than an iron in a blacksmith's fire. Though I can't put my finger on why that is, in the scope of things that make up physical beauty and attractiveness in a woman, being short rates high in my book. I love being able to completely hold a girl in my arms, to be able to lean down and give her a little kiss on the top of the head, and generally like the relative size difference. Perhaps at some deep level of the psyche it's a male kind of thing.

On more than one occasion, when I've heard a girl complain about being short, I've told her to count her blessings. Some guys out there may go for the statuesque build, but I'm sure that I'm not alone in saying that some of us want just the opposite.

ADDENDUM: Of course, there are some other advantages to short girls, too. I find that they are much easier to pick up and throw over my shoulder when they need to be efficiently transported to some destination. :D

katie_spades 11-07-2006 05:23 PM

Big pet peeve: when people use the contraction "ain't!" It may be in the dictionary (as sad as that is) but it's not an effin' word!!! It's a contraction! It's murder on my ears!!!

You are right, I'm the "throw over the shoulder size" but you gotta catch me first. tee hee. Now to answer your questions. Most of the time, being short is annoying to me. But overall it doesn't do me any good to get overly upset about it, that's a part of me that can never change, lol. Like you mentioned there are certain times that I hate it. I did the whole grocery store scenario tonight in fact. I will say that there are actually nice people sometimes that will volunteer their assistance for those items on the top shelf ;) Still with that being said, if a magic wand were an option-I would defiantly do some re-arranging, lol. Not drastic changes, but 4 to 5 inches would be nice.

Richard Windsor 11-10-2006 12:21 PM

If anyone is ever fortunate (or unfortunate as the case may be) to read my blogs, you will know that my pet peeves rank in the hundreds :D

There are a couple though that outrank them all by far. Quite simply the worst one is lying, I absolutely abhor liars. For some reason, even in the written word, people think that you are stupid and will believe everything that they tell you. The lying gets so bad and outrageous that it becomes comical. Lying is something that I simply cannot tolerate and I have no time for people who do it.

Another one is lack of humility. I have come across so many people in my life and the ones I tend to stick with are the ones that are humble, modest and down to earth. It grates me to no end to see and hear someone constantly patting themselves on the back or seeking approval from others. Humility is one of the greatest traits a person can own.

Sir Richard of Windsor.

These are actually on my vanilla myspace page, RG_. Due to family and work colleagues, I keep that seperate from my non vanilla page.

It really isn't a page that I share outside of people who actually know me, which of course you and Ginger are MORE than welcome to view, but I won't be posting a link to the page :) I will send you an IM with the link RG_.

I have to agree with you Sir Richard, both of these things are a biggie with me as well. Once you have fallen victim to a deliberate lie by someone else, it really does something to ya. As far as the being humble; very well put. I don't require or need pats on the back -just smacks on the butt on occasion ;)

Adelina 01-19-2007 08:09 PM

I was going start a thread to post this question to the group (pet peeves, that is), but since there already is one, I'll just reincarnate it, with apologies to anyone whose pet peeve is reincarnated threads.

Thing is, I'm getting fed up with people at work and stuff who misuse the word "literally" to describe figurative scenarios, as in "I'm literally up to my ears in it" when they are clearly standing free of any such It. Now, instead of just saying "literally" when I mean "literally," I have to rearrange my literal observations into such things as "in a literal sense" or some synonym like truly, really, seriously, when literally would have sufficed, as I do not want to be misunderstood as stating something figuratively when I do in fact mean to express it literally!

*GASP FOR AIR*

'kay? 'kay. Thanks for listening.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

iggy 01-19-2007 08:24 PM

Well use of the word "loose" when it should be the word "lose" just drives me completely batty! I even saw it in a movie I watched the other day! Grrrrrr.....

Also misusing "dominate" when it should be "dominant" i.e. I am a dominate male. (I think if someone is going to call themselves a Dom, they should actually know what it is short for!)

(just makes me want to light my hair on fire and start screaming)

impishbrat 01-19-2007 08:45 PM

Adelina, you made me laugh! That reminds me - I've been in areas of the country where they misuse, as well as overuse, the term "ignorant". I cannot understand how someone who stumbled over a crack in the sidewalk could be ignorant!

Iggy, your post led to thoughts of all my grammar pet peeves. As a composition teacher, I sympathize with your aggravation over homophones, homonyms and plain mispellings. Look it up! I will not even get into the variety of errors I see - the same ones with each consecutive group of students!

And I could not agree with Richard more. I "literally" (sorry Adelina!) loathe arrogant, self-involved people. Get your head out of your own a$$ and see what you can do to improve the world you live in. Additionally, these self-righteous know-it-alls usually know nothing at all.

Finally, I cannot stand it when people leave their blinkers on! Even if they cannot hear the ticking due to high radio volumes, they have to be blind not to see the bright blinking light in the dashboard. grrrrr.

Good que, Iggy. Although...this could get very long....

Pet Peeves

Arrogant, self absorbed know-it-alls.
"Help Desks" where it takes you thirty minutes to finally talk to a human who turns out to be very little help at all.
Disrespectful young people.
Screaming kids in public places....yes little kids get tired, hungry, upset..etc. and don't know how to behave...but the parents can at least remove the source of annoyance.
Folks who think everything is some else's fault. Take some responsibilty.....our mistakes are truly our own.
Mean spirited people.
People who don't stand respectfully when the National Anthem is played....if you aren't a patriot, that's you business but have some respect.

Guess I sound like a grouch....sorry.....I'm really a pretty nice guy.

Rangerboy, we Texans must think alike. I agree with all of these. But the 2 that particularly drive me crazy are:

1) Arrogant know-it-alls. These folks are usually so self-absorbed that they don't even realize what know-it-alls they are being. I run into them on a daily basis, both in the spanking website business and in my vanilla life. Knowing you are a Civil War buff Rangerboy, it would be like someone coming in and telling you about Civil War history when he/she MIGHT be able to tell you that the Civil War happened in the 1860s.

2) People with a lack of responsibility. The immediate knee-jerk reaction for these folks when something goes wrong is to blame either a situation or another person rather than accepting blame themselves.

For example, a very popular video we shot a few years back, with a very popular model (who will remain nameless! LOL) had a very real-life situation. She was being punished for having too many "pending" bills. Her response? "Things got ahead of me." Not, "I'm behind in my bills." But "things got ahead of me." My business partner Draytone and I rewound that scene and watched it over and over and just laughed and laughed, repeating the line "things got ahead of me." I still chuckle about that to this day! And we all love this particular model too. It's just that whole "can't possbily be my fault" thing...

spanked~amber 01-20-2007 02:19 PM

Very well said Rangerboy & Gary. The know-it-all thing is definatly a huge one for me.
Telemarketer's that act pissy if you tell them no thanks, or bill collectors that could care less whether the last amount of money in your account is for grocery's and gas. I know they are just doing their job, but thats why I don't have that job. My heart would get in the way. BTW Gary, my Mervyn's bill is paid in full now. Guess I learned my lesson from that one, lol.
I work with children on a daily basis. Keeping them in line is my job, so it is beyond annoying to me while in public because I can't put on my teacher hat and adjust the attitude of a child throwing a tantrum. Here's one also; People that reward a child with candy for "calming down" just makes me go bonkers. If I had thrown a fit when I was litle, I wouldn't have been able to SIT DOWN.
The mean spirited one Rangerboy, I really agree with. Besides it being bad manners, what good comes from someone being vindictive or deceitful ?
Backstabbers is another one for me. Betrayel is so horrible and sometimes life altering.
Okay-I'm sounding really whiny and grouchy and that could get me in trouble, so I think I'll close on this one. lol

Actually Amber, I wasn't referring to you. BUT, it's good to know your Mervyn's bill is paid off, especially since I don't even think they are in business in Texas anymore!

dotty 01-20-2007 02:58 PM

At the top of my list of pet peeves is when people repeatedly type the word "your" when really it's supposed to be "you're". For example, "Your early today." Grrrrrrrrrr!! It's basic grammar!

It's even worse when they KNOW that they're using "your" wrongly, but they do it anyway because the're too lazy to use the apostrophe!

And one more thing: using "their" instead of "they're" as in "Their not supposed to be here". Geezus!!

Another thing I can't stand is when the letters e and i are switched in certain words, like "thier" (their) and wierd (weird).

LOL...I can go on and on about this. Now that I think about it, most of my pet peeves have to do with grammar/spelling. I mean, it only takes 10 seconds to go to Dictionary.com and check the spelling of a word when you're not so sure how it is spelled!

I'll shut up now. :D

Lol. I knew you weren't referring to me. On my clip it's obvious by my fidgeting and response that I was guilty as charged. tee hee
The fact they are no longer in business here was another incentive to get it paid. I was tired of my phone ringing. The kid, oh excuse me, the "young man" reading me the right act on paying it off got a scolding let me tell ya. Before the conversation was over, I received an apology for his rudeness as well as the effort to "work something out" on my end. I assured him that I hate owing money, it was the only card I had. I also told him that if I have to choose between buying groceries and having a place to live or paying off my meryvn's bill, he isn't going to rank very high in my priorities. Give me respect and I'll show the same. Be arrogant and rude....well he also ended up admitting to me how much debt he owed ! Lol.

Dotty, we should probably start a subset forum called mygrammar.com. LOL.

First off, I'm not sure dictionary.com would help because first, one has to know the proper "usage" of a word before one can spell it...especially in the case of something like there/their/they're.

Also, my English teachers in school were WRONG. It ISN'T always "I before E except after C!"

Of course English being English....they are always a TON of exceptions (eg. science)!

What I find really aggravating about the "your" when they mean "you're" is that you see it so often that you can easily start doing it too and have to watch out for it...every time I catch myself doing it (something I NEVER used to) I get aggravated all over again!

Adelina 01-20-2007 05:06 PM

The "it's-its" confusion is another diabolical terror, similar to the "your-you're" conundrum, but with the opposite frequency of misuse. That is, in the former case, "it's" is usually misused as a possessive; but in the latter, "your" is usually mistaken for a verbal contraction. I've seen "it's" used incorrectly on billboards, in advertisements and articles. The error has become so common that the editors don't even seem to notice anymore, as if the wrong version is subliminally becoming the right one. To my horror, I've even caught myself making the "it's" mistake, more than once.

rangerboy 01-20-2007 07:40 PM

Story on Myself

Gary and Amber,

Thanks for the feedback and comment.

With regards to "know-it-alls" I've got to tell this story on myself.

As you know, I spent a career in the Navy and had the good fortune on several occasions to find myself stationed in San Diego. (For those who have never been there, put it on your list of "things-to-do-before-I-die.")

Back in the late 1980's I was an avid fan of the sport of sailing and crewed with some winning amatuer crews in San Diego. We were pretty good...not great.....but good enough to have fun. Certainly not anywhere near good enough to consider professional competition but as I say we were pretty fair weekend sailors.

Through a friend of a friend, I was invited to the San Diego Yacht club for a cookout after a local regatta. I was about one beer away from being totally tanked when I started up a coversation with a guy at the bar. I began holding forth at great length about the sport of sailing and sharing various techniques for getting better speed and balance and on and on......

He was polite and listened to my babble for about five minutes before excusing himself.

When we were leaving, as I was passing through the lobby there was a photo of the 1987 America's Cup crew. Guess who was on the crew????? Yeah, the guy to whom I'd been running my mouth......

Ok, I'm with the folks who can't stand the assault on the English language. One of my pet peeves is when people say "I could care less." The phrase is "I couldn't care less." The point is that you don't care at all, you couldn't care less. If you could care less, than it means you care on some level. Aaarrrggggghhhh.

The other one that makes me cringe is "less" and "fewer." You always see things like "Jello pudding, now with less calories." Groan. It's fewer calories. If something can be counted individually, it's fewer. If it can't be counted individually, it's less. You can't count pudding. But you can count cups of pudding or calories in pudding.

Yes, I know, I'm a word geek. But I just can't help it.

You tell'em, girl!

And for the information of MSF members, these astute observations on the use of the English language come from someone who's native language is not English! Kind of tells us something about the respect that we have for our own language, huh?

(And as an added comment, while I very much agree with the claim that we should make English the official language of the U.S., I wonder what it says when many of the people supporting that desire don't have a clue themselves on how to actually use it.)

Emily, you wouldn't last long on the New York Subway. That happens every stop. :(

We get pet peeves all the time at my job. I work in a wax museum where we get tourists from all over. Every day, I see the bar for human stupidity lowered more and more. How many people here would bring an infant or small child into a "CHAMBER OF HORRORS" (our haunted house section)? What part of "no pictures" and "no touching the actors" is difficult to comprehend? Would you go into a haunted house if you were six months pregnant? Let's not talk about the number of people who ask "Is it REALLY scary??" (It's a CHAMBER of HORRORS!!!)

Sorry, just got off work a few minutes ago and this was the perfect thread to vent. :D

emily 01-23-2007 11:23 PM

BV i work in a Pediatric Dr's office.. The stupidity i seen in parents every day just simply amazes me so yes unfortunately i can see parents doing their children that way..

After a really horrid work week lastnight it made me remember another major pet peve of mine. Which is people that try to talk to you while you're on the phone. HELLOOOOO!!! On tha phone here!!! And then have the nerve after you get off the phone to ask if you heard what they said??!!??!! wow!! i hada bad week last week lol.. my co-workers were lucky to have made it out alive *giggles*
